Celeste Houlker believes the youth generation is full of "can do" wannabe entrepreneurs brimming with potential - and she should know, being the editor of LIVE magazine, a magazine created by young people, and founder of The 12th Estate.

I wrote a guest blog for smarta.com about the surge in young entrepreneurs and what fuels them and it went down quite well.

Celeste Houlker believes the youth generation is full of “can do” wannabe entrepreneurs brimming with potential – and she should know, being the editor of LIVE magazine, a magazine created by young people, and founder of The 12th Estate, which supports young women in building their careers and enterprises in the creative, media and publishing industries.

The next renowned businessman or woman is only a click away. Vigorously tapping the keys of the computer is a young person busy networking on Twitter or Facebook pushing out their latest piece of work, whether that’s a blog post, video or photo shoot promoting their product or service.

You can find them on LinkedIn with a detailed and ambitious profile, but don’t be surprised when you realise their last job was their college work experience – these guys are a young go-getting bunch with the power of the internet in their hands and a nose for success. The face of British business is changing. It’s getting younger. Against the backdrop of the cuts, unemployment and university fees sky-rocketing, the pot of reasons why young enterprise is vast and will only continue to expand. The “can do” generation has all the right ingredients to make things happen for themselves and become financially independent: their own creative initiative, the internet and media being some great factors that have inspired these young people.

TV shows like The Apprentice and Dragons’ Den have over the years revealed the entrepreneurial world as accessible and lucrative – a way out of the boring nine-to-five students have been told they will face for the rest of their lives. The same goes for shows like The Only Way Is Essex, Made In Chelsea and The Hills; popular reality shows where most of the early 20-something cast end up with some sort of shop or product line by the end of it.Then there are the role models: Mark Zuckerberg, or our country’s most exciting innovator Jamal Edwards (founder or SBTV, the UK’s largest youth broadcaster). They were everyday people who now have hugely successful internet-based businesses putting the celebrity gloss on what it means to be a young entrepreneur.

Sure, not every Tom, Dick and money-making Harry is going to be chilling with Richard Branson in front of helicopters taking photos, but that’s ok because being in the limelight is not what this business generation is about. It’s strictly about making as much money as possible, as young as possible. It’s an exciting time in the “youth economy” because it’s only getting started. Universities are investing more into their entrepreneur societies with the help of organisations like NACUE. Programmes like 02 Think Big, The Stake, Virgin Pioneers and now spaced_ have created a platform for young people to launch their businesses.

spaced_ (presented by Legacy Trust project somewhereto_ and Smarta) is the first youth enterprise event that aims to match young entrepreneurs aged 16-25 with a free London workspace, for a minimum of six months, to start or grow their business.Somewhereto_ will be carefully selecting 50 promising young business owners of the future, aged 16-25, to attend an all day event on Wednesday 26 September in a top secret London location. They will be treated to advice from a panel including Tim Campbell (winner of The Apprentice and founder of Bright Ideas Trust) and Ning Li (founder of made.com) before having 60 seconds to pitch their business idea to space-holders from across London for a chance to be chosen for their own London workspace.Events like this are finally giving young entrepreneurs the resources they need to make it happen.

The most exciting part is witnessing the support within youth culture towards young entrepreneurs and their products. Whether its simply a retweet on Twitter, or pressing “LIKE” on Facebook, wearing a fashionable promotional t-shirt or buying the products and services themselves; young people are supporting each other.Britain’s youth business culture is set to be a thriving one in the next couple of years. We just have to keep an eye out to see who the movers and shakers will be.

Yes it’s the new year and yes I’m jumping on the health kick wagon, but only because I miss it. Plus I have found a new love, a workout that fits my body type.

My other huge passion in life, other than media, is sport- I was born to play and win my friend- and after three long years I have finally got back into my running and netball rhythm. There aren’t many workouts on the web designed for a specific body shape, but I’ve managed to find this treasure a couple months back on Women’s Health magazine.

I’ve been doing the Athletic Body Type workout to help beat my muscle’s back into shape and boy I’m feeling the burn!

Here’s what happened when I headed down to Underage Festival 2010 to interview pop’s newest star at the time Tinie Tempah.

An oldie, but goody!

I had a big fat crazy crush on Tinie before he blew up in the charts and meeting him was only something my sixteen-year-old self could dream about. This video here was the deal breaker when I realised he was the guy for me. Tinie Tempah featuring Cleo Sol “Tears”.

Play Stop Think Win on Live Magazine's website to win yourself some tickets to this year's Underage Festival

I’m proud to be a female gamer, unfortunately the gaming industry still needs more of us representing the female finger bashing community, but it’s slowly getting there.

The first major project I worked on with Livity (the youth engagement agency that publishes Live Magazine) was with Sony Playstation. A team of us spent four months creating a real-life social game that was played in Brick Lane, back then I was just a fresh-faced contributor at Live. Now as editor I’m helping to promote a new game created by TFL, designed by M&C Saatchi and hosted on Live Magazine’s website. Fast-forward one year and half later and I’m playing with the big boys now.

Back in January myself and the business development manager of Live Magazine; @Andreagamson, popped down to M&C Saatchi for the initial meeting about the launch of this new game alongside representatives from Spotify, Bauer Media, MTV, BSKYB and Facebook. Yes, the social network daddy, Facebook, was in the room- well on loudspeaker to be accurate. Four months later the game has arrived!

So what is this special game that has Facebook on the phone and a microsite on Live Magaine’s website you’re wondering? Well it’s called Stop Think Win http://www.live-magazine.co.uk/stopthinkwin/. It’s a game designed to promote road safety awareness amongst teenagers. Road safety is no joke! I once saw a girl knocked down by a bus on my way to school, and from what I saw, she was not having a laugh lying on the ground with paramedics hovering over her. Poor girl, I wonder how she is now.

Ok, so the game might sound a bit boring at this point, but actually it really is not. The best part of the game is; if you play and manage to keep yourself and your mates alive, you’re in with a chance of winning prizes that will save your pocket some money too.

Here is the list of prizes you can win:

Tickets to this years Underage Festival ! Devlin and Yasmin are two amazing acts you can’t miss out seeing live.

Passes to Cineworld (if you win, take me please, I love the movies )

MTV goody bags

Premium access to We7.com

MTV branded Wowee speaker

Lunch with the presenters of Camp Orange on Nikelodeon

Go ahead, try the game out for yourself http://www.live-magazine.co.uk/stopthinkwin/ Keep yourself alive and win some goodies!

Let us know how you get on by tweeting: @LiveMagUk #StopThinkWin
Peace!

C*

This is my declaration of love to the House of Gucci

All hail Frida Giannini and the Gucci house, who have managed, for the last six years, to always make me fall in love with their collections. Now I only dream about looking like the models they send down their runway.

There are only five high-end designers that speak out to me from the glossy pages of ELLE (yes I am an avid ELLE reader and will always be. All hail ELLE magazine too!) and they are: D&G, Anna Sui, L.A.M.B and of course Gucci. All of these put together make up my style; bold, colourful, sophisticated, fun and fitted with tasteful patterns, but it’s the Gucci way of life that grabs me the most.

To be honest with you; I think it was their campaigns that caught my attention from the get go more than their clothes. So yes I was a sucker for the advert in the beginning, but what it did do was bring me into their world which helped to give my wardrobe and myself direction on how I want to be perceived and what my clothes say about me.

Not everything Gucci does sits well with me, infact I can’t stand the traditional print (I don’t like Louis Vuittion’s either), what I do like is their more younger and simpler outfits that can make any young women look expensive and mature without leaving her age behind. Then there’s the courageous personality that goes with wearing an outfit put together by the house which tend to be very strong and simple.

I’m yet to purchase my first Gucci clothing item, the day will come, but until then I’ll carry on infusing the Italian inspiration with the good’ole high-street. Until I become a real Gucci girl, my favourite place to shop for Gucci inspired clothes is Zara, which I can count on to give me the fun, but classy look I try my best to achieve.
